Good breakfast options

  • The Loafe (two locations on campus – one near the physics building) 
  • The Boulevard (cafe)
  • JJ Bean Coffee Roasters (cafe)
  • Blue Chip Cafe (cafe inside the Nest)
  • Starbucks (two locations near the physics building, one in the student union building, the other next to the UBC bookstore)
  • Tim Hortons (Canadian staple, a bit further from the physics building, several locations)

Grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores are available on campus, especially near the Nest, on University Blvd, and in Wesbrook Village (a short bus ride away).

Bike shares are available on campus, where you download an app and rent a bike (with a fee based on time from checkout to return). 

Downtown is an easy bus ride away; several bus lines depart from a centrally located bus terminal. See the TransLink website for more information. Google Maps is also generally very reliable for planning trips with public transit in Vancouver.

UBC Bookstore has souvenirs, books, games, gifts, stationary, electronics accessories, etc.

Medical resources 

  • Advice for non-urgent medical needs: dial 8-1-1 to reach HealthLink (a free nursing hotline available in BC) 
  • For Mon-Sat, there is a walk-in clinic open on campus
    • Other walk-in clinics are available in Vancouver; call or book online before you go 
  • For medical emergencies, the UBC Hospital Emergency Room is close nearby
